Skin Tightening

Skin Tightening

First of all its a problem right??!!! For those of you out there that are in your teens or twenties USE SUNSCREEN. Skin tightneing devices over the last five years have exploded. Let me remind you all that past the age of 30 we lose about 1 percent of existing collagen in our skin. What a bummer but I have some favorite recommendations and explanations on exactly what skin tighteners do…..First of all they can be administered by a doctor or a licensed aesthetician. Skin tightening devices will deliver energy to tighten the skin below the skins surface. When you heat up the dermis this causes inflammation and injury therefore making existing collagen contract and new collagen to form. What I have found to be true in my years of experience is if you are past the age of 50 ( and you are playing the I want good skin catch up game) then you will need a combo of treatments and possibly a combination of types of treatment. Also, if the skin is severely saggy then surgery is your best option.

  1. Radio Frequency Technology: Uses heat and energy , which can be adjusted for patient needs, to deliver heat to the dermis at a low temperature without damaging the epidermis to treat aging and sagging skin.

How It Feels: It does depend on what area you are treating as to how it feels . Some areas will feel like a hot stone massage and other areas will be more sensitive.

  2. Radio Frequency is combined with Microneedling: You have ultra fine needles that puncture the skin to make tiny wounds while delivering heat, energy into the targeted areas. This then signals your body to heal that wound thus processing new collagen and elastin making the skin tight again.

How It Feels: Most often a topical numbing cream is applied for 20-30 minutes prior and most always the patients are very comfortable during this procedure.

  1. Infrared Light: Uses light and cooling to promote collagen contraction which in turn produces a firmer skin. Gentle pulses of heat for about 30 minutes and can be used on face, neck, arms , and abdomen. Always performed in a series of treatments.

How It Feels: Not much discomfort at all no numbing is required.

  1. Lasers: Non ablative and Ablative. There are sooooooo many now. When I first started in this industry 30t years ago there was a buzz about lasers and CO2 lasers were being discovered but now …… whew there are alot. So non-ablative will leave your outermost layer of skin intact, but are still able to penetrate the skin. Ablative lasers remove the top layer of the skin and go deeper in the skin will more downtime being required. And then there are Lasers that have combined both Ablative and Non-Ablative which is ideal for skin correction and sagging skin. How It Feels: Clearly anything that equals results is gonna hurt. Its just like that good workout you did and then woke up the next morning barely able to walk …right ?? But you did it in hopes of getting the results you want for a great looking body. Same for the skin!!
